Air Quality Alert issued July 23 at 3:33PM PDT by NWS Pendleton OR The Washington State Department of Ecology and the Benton Clean Air Agency have issued an Air Quality Alert until 9 AM PDT Friday. For the Smoke Air Quality Alert, wildfires burning in the region combined with forecasted conditions will cause air quality to reach unhealthy levels. Pollutants in smoke can cause burning eyes, runny nose, aggravate heart and lung diseases, and aggravate other serious health problems. Limit outdoor activities and keep children indoors if it is smoky. Please follow medical advice if you have a heart or lung condition. The upper level low will eject into the region bringing windy conditions to many of the Cascade Gaps as well as central OR. Humidities both Friday and Saturday will be critical. * AFFECTED AREA...Fire Weather Zones 690 Kittitas Valley, 691 Lower Columbia Basin of Oregon, 691 Lower Columbia Basin of Washington, 697 Central Blue Mountains and 704 Northern Deschutes National Forest. * TIMING...From 10 AM to 8 PM PDT Saturday. * WINDS...West 15 to 25 mph with gusts up to 35 mph. * RELATIVE HUMIDITY...As low as 20 percent. * IMPACTS...Any fire that develops will catch and spread quickly. Outdoor burning is not recommended. A Red Flag Warning means that critical fire weather conditions are either occurring now, or will shortly. A combination of strong winds, low relative humidity, and warm temperatures can contribute to extreme fire behavior.
