Air Quality Alert issued July 17 at 11:32AM EDT by NWS Wakefield VA The Virginia Department of Environmental Quality has issued a Code PURPLE Air Quality Alert across The Richmond Metro Area, for Fine Particulates, until midnight EDT tonight. This also includes areas to the north and northeast of the Richmond Metro, as wells the the Virginia Eastern Shore. Air quality is expected to reach code PURPLE...which is very unhealthy...and means everyone may experience serious health effects and should avoid all outdoor exertion. individuals with lung and/or heart ailments...older adults...and children should especially avoid all outdoor exertion. An Air Quality Alert means that Fine Particulates concentrations within the region may approach or exceed unhealthy standards.
