Heights), Eastern Hanover, Eastern Henrico, Powhatan, Prince Edward, Western Chesterfield and Western Henrico (Including the City of Richmond). In east central Virginia, Charles City and New Kent. In south central Virginia, Brunswick, Dinwiddie, Lunenburg, Mecklenburg, Nottoway and Prince George (including Hopewell and Petersburg). In southeast Virginia, Chesapeake, Greensville, Hampton/Poquoson, Isle of Wight, James City, Newport News, Norfolk, Portsmouth, Southampton, Suffolk, Surry, Sussex, Virginia Beach and York. * WHEN...Until 10 PM EDT this evening. * IMPACTS...Excessive runoff may result in flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS... - A quasi west-east upper trough remains nearly stationary from KY through VA this afternoon. This has allowed for scattered showers earlier today and last night with locally heavy rainfall. Rainfall totals have locally already exceeded 2.5 to 3 inches in some locations. The latest guidance shows showers and embedded storms becoming more widespread this afternoon with localized totals of 3 to 5 inches possible. Flood Advisory issued July 12 at 2:43PM EDT until July 12 at 5:45PM EDT by NWS Wakefield VA * WHAT...Urban and small stream flooding caused by excessive rainfall is expected. * WHERE...A portion of central Virginia, including the following counties and independent city, Chesterfield, City of Richmond, Hanover and Henrico. * WHEN...Until 545 PM EDT. * IMPACTS...Minor flooding in low-lying and poor drainage areas. Ponding of water in urban or other areas is occurring or is imminent. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS... - At 243 PM EDT, Doppler radar indicated heavy rain due to thunderstorms. This will cause urban and small stream flooding. Between 0.5 and 1 inch of rain has fallen. - Additional rainfall amounts of 0.5 to 1.5 inches are expected over the area. This additional rain will result in minor flooding. - Some locations that will experience flooding include... Richmond, Virginia Commonwealth University, Highland Springs, Virginia Union University, Downtown Richmond, Mechanicsville, University Of Richmond, Bon Air, Tuckahoe, East Highland Park, Bensley, Bellwood, Lakeside, Montrose, Richmond Heights, Varina, Richmond International, Fair Oaks, Drewrys Bluff and Sandston. - http://www.weather.gov/safety/flood Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads.
