Flood Watch issued May 15 at 1:48PM CDT until May 17 at 7:00AM CDT by NWS Houston/Galveston TX * WHAT...Flooding caused by excessive rainfall is possible. * WHERE...A portion of southeast Texas, including the following areas, Austin, Brazos, Burleson, Coastal Harris, Grimes, Houston, Inland Harris, Madison, Montgomery, Northern Liberty, Polk, San Jacinto, Southern Liberty, Trinity, Walker, Waller and Washington. * WHEN...From Thursday afternoon through Friday morning. * IMPACTS...Excessive runoff may result in flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS... - Widespread thunderstorms will develop across the area tomorrow afternoon, with the presence of a warm frontal boundary and abundant moisture providing favorable conditions for heavy rainfall. The flood threat will be further exacerbated by well-saturated soils still present across portions of the region due to significant antecdeant rainfall. In general, 2-4" of new rainfall can be expected for areas north of the I-10 corridor through Thursday evening. Isolated locally higher totals of around 6" are possible as well. Neches River At Rockland affecting Angelina, Jasper, Tyler and Polk Counties. Neches River Near Diboll affecting Trinity, Angelina, Polk, Tyler and Houston Counties. Neches River Near Neches affecting Cherokee, Houston and Anderson Counties. For the Neches River...including Neches, Alto, Diboll, Rockland... Moderate flooding is forecast. * WHAT...Moderate flooding is occurring and moderate flooding is forecast. * WHERE...Neches River near Alto. * WHEN...Until further notice. * IMPACTS...At 19.0 feet, Preparations should be completed for a moderate flood. Barns and farm buildings near the river will be threatened by high water. In addition, ranchers should have completed moving cattle and equipment to higher ground. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS... - At 10:15 AM CDT Wednesday the stage was 18.6 feet. - Bankfull stage is 16.0 feet. - Recent Activity...The maximum river stage in the 24 hours ending at 10:15 AM CDT Wednesday was 19.6 feet. - Forecast...The river is expected to fall to 16.5 feet Monday morning. - Flood stage is 16.0 feet. - Flood History...This crest compares to a previous crest of 18.5 feet on 06/17/2016. - http://www.weather.gov/safety/flood Do not drive cars through flooded areas.
