Heat Advisory issued June 20 at 3:10AM EDT until June 20 at 8:00PM EDT by NWS Burlington VT * WHAT...Heat index values up to 100. * WHERE...All of Vermont and northern New York. The hottest conditions will be in portions of the Champlain and Connecticut River Valleys. * WHEN...Until 8 PM EDT this evening. * IMPACTS...Hot temperatures and high humidity may cause heat illnesses. Drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors. Take extra precautions when outside. Wear lightweight and loose fitting clothing. Try to limit strenuous activities to early morning or evening. Take action when you see symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat stroke. To reduce risk during outdoor work, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration recommends scheduling frequent rest breaks in shaded or air conditioned environments. Anyone overcome by heat should be moved to a cool and shaded location. Heat stroke is an emergency! Call 9 1 1. Do not leave young children and pets in unattended vehicles. Car interiors will reach lethal temperatures in a matter of minutes. Indoor temperatures may continue to rise after peak heating hours in poorly ventilated spaces. Those without air conditioning should consider the potential for lingering health impacts while indoors late in the day.

Special Weather Statement issued June 20 at 5:43PM EDT by NWS Burlington VT At 542 PM EDT, Doppler radar was tracking strong thunderstorms along a line extending from 15 miles west of Ogdensburg to near Morristown to Clayton. Movement was east at 35 mph. HAZARD...Wind gusts up to 40 mph. SOURCE...Radar indicated. IMPACT...Gusty winds could knock down tree limbs and blow around unsecured objects. Locations impacted include... Potsdam, Massena, Gouverneur, Ogdensburg, Canton, Norfolk, Lisbon, Louisville, De Kalb, Fowler, Parishville, Colton, Morley, Degrasse, Massena International Airport - Richards Field, Waddington, Richville, Hammond, Madrid, and Rensselaer Falls. If outdoors, consider seeking shelter inside a building. Torrential rainfall is also occurring with these storms and may lead to localized flooding. Do not drive your vehicle through flooded roadways. Frequent cloud to ground lightning is occurring with these storms. Lightning can strike 10 miles away from a thunderstorm. Seek a safe shelter inside a building or vehicle. A Severe Thunderstorm Watch remains in effect until 800 PM EDT for northern New York.
