Heat Advisory issued June 20 at 3:10AM EDT until June 20 at 8:00PM EDT by NWS Burlington VT * WHAT...Heat index values up to 100. * WHERE...All of Vermont and northern New York. The hottest conditions will be in portions of the Champlain and Connecticut River Valleys. * WHEN...Until 8 PM EDT this evening. * IMPACTS...Hot temperatures and high humidity may cause heat illnesses. Drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors. Take extra precautions when outside. Wear lightweight and loose fitting clothing. Try to limit strenuous activities to early morning or evening. Take action when you see symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat stroke. To reduce risk during outdoor work, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration recommends scheduling frequent rest breaks in shaded or air conditioned environments. Anyone overcome by heat should be moved to a cool and shaded location. Heat stroke is an emergency! Call 9 1 1. Do not leave young children and pets in unattended vehicles. Car interiors will reach lethal temperatures in a matter of minutes. Indoor temperatures may continue to rise after peak heating hours in poorly ventilated spaces. Those without air conditioning should consider the potential for lingering health impacts while indoors late in the day.

Marine Weather Statement issued June 20 at 4:15PM EDT by NWS Buffalo NY The areas affected include... Lake Ontario from Sackets Harbor to Cape Vincent... The Saint Lawrence River from Cape Vincent to Saint Regis... At 412 PM EDT, Doppler radar indicated strong thunderstorms, capable of producing winds to around 30 knots. These thunderstorms were located along a line extending from 33 nm northwest of Ogdensburg to 35 nm west of Tibbets Point, moving east at 35 knots. Locations impacted include... Tibbets Point, Black River Bay, Alexandria Bay, Wellesley Island, St. Lawrence River, Chaumont Bay, Cape Vincent, and Clayton. These strong thunderstorms will likely produce winds to around 30 knots, and could pose a serious hazard for boaters. A special marine warning may eventually be required when these strong thunderstorms reaches the nearshore waters. Boaters should consider heading for shore before these strong thunderstorms arrives.

The Saint Lawrence River from Cape Vincent to Waddington... * Until 630 PM EDT. * At 503 PM EDT, strong thunderstorms were located along a line extending from 32 nm north of Wellesley Island to 15 nm northwest of Tibbets Point, moving east at 35 knots. HAZARD...Wind gusts to 40 knots. SOURCE...Radar. IMPACT...Small craft could be damaged in briefly higher winds and suddenly higher waves. * Locations impacted include... Alexandria Bay, Cape Vincent, Wellesley Island, Clayton, and St. Lawrence River. Move to safe harbor immediately as gusty winds and high waves are expected. Frequent lightning is occurring with these storms. If caught on the open water stay below deck if possible, keep away from ungrounded metal objects.
