Many rivers and low lying areas are already flooding or experience high water with more rain expected over the next 24 to 48 hours. * WHAT...Flooding caused by excessive rainfall continues to be possible. * WHERE...A portion of southeast Minnesota, including the following counties, Fillmore, Houston, Mower, Olmsted and Winona. * WHEN...Through Friday morning. * IMPACTS...Excessive runoff may result in flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations. Area creeks and streams are running high and could flood with more heavy rain. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS... - Much of the area received heavy rainfall overnight especially along and south of Interstate 90 across southeast Minnesota and southwest Wisconsin. Southern Fillmore County in southeastern Minnesota... * Until 745 PM CDT. * At 147 PM CDT, Doppler radar indicated thunderstorms producing heavy rain across the warned area. Between 1 and 2 inches of rain have fallen in the last hour and 5 to 8 inches in the last 24 hours. Additional rainfall amounts up to 2 inches are possible in the warned area. Flash flooding is ongoing or expected to begin shortly. HAZARD...Flash flooding caused by thunderstorms. SOURCE...Radar indicated. IMPACT...Flash flooding of small creeks and streams, urban areas, highways, streets and underpasses as well as other poor drainage and low-lying areas. * Some locations that will experience flash flooding include... Preston, Harmony, Lanesboro, Rushford Village, Highland, Cherry Grove, Bristol, Amherst, York, Carimona, Whalan, Hutton, Old Barn Campground, Granger, Forestville State Park, Greenleafton, Henrytown, Etna and Choice. Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood deaths occur in vehicles. Stay away or be swept away. River banks and culverts can become unstable and unsafe.
