Heat Advisory issued June 9 at 3:57AM CDT until June 9 at 9:00PM CDT by NWS Topeka KS * WHAT...Heat index values up to 107 expected. * WHERE...Portions of central, east central, north central, and northeast Kansas. * WHEN...From noon today to 9 PM CDT this evening. * IMPACTS...Hot temperatures and high humidity may cause heat cramps, heat exhaustion, and even heat stroke. Take extra precautions when outside. Wear lightweight and loose fitting clothing. Try to limit strenuous activities to early morning or evening. Take action when you see symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat stroke. To reduce risk during outdoor work, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration recommends scheduling frequent rest breaks in shaded or air conditioned environments. Anyone overcome by heat should be moved to a cool and shaded location. Heat stroke is an emergency! Call 9 1 1. Do not leave young children and pets in unattended vehicles. Car interiors will reach lethal temperatures in a matter of minutes.

Flood Advisory issued June 9 at 3:12AM CDT until June 9 at 5:15AM CDT by NWS Topeka KS * WHAT...Urban and small stream flooding caused by excessive rainfall is expected. * WHERE...Portions of north central and northeast Kansas, including the following counties, in north central Kansas, Clay and Cloud. In northeast Kansas, Pottawatomie and Riley. * WHEN...Until 515 AM CDT. * IMPACTS...Minor flooding in low-lying and poor drainage areas. Rises in small streams. Overflowing poor drainage areas. Some low-water crossings may become impassable. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS... - At 312 AM CDT, Doppler radar indicated heavy rain due to thunderstorms. This will cause urban and small stream flooding. Between 0.5 and 2 inches of rain have fallen. - Additional rainfall amounts of 0.5 to 2 inches are expected over the area. This additional rain will result in minor flooding. - Some locations that will experience flooding include... Clay Center, Riley, Miltonvale, Glasco, Leonardville, Morganville, Randolph, Green, Aurora, Idana and Tuttle Creek Lake. Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood deaths occur in vehicles. Be especially cautious at night when it is harder to recognize the dangers of flooding.
