Flood Warning issued April 28 at 12:43PM CDT until April 28 at 9:30PM CDT by NWS Wichita KS This warning replaces the previous areal flood warnings across Southeast Kansas. * WHAT...Flooding caused by excessive rainfall is occurring. * WHERE...A portion of Southeast Kansas, including the following counties, Allen, Elk, Greenwood, Neosho, Wilson and Woodson. * WHEN...Until 930 PM CDT Sunday. * IMPACTS...Flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations is imminent or occurring. Numerous roads remain closed due to flooding. Streams continue to rise due to excess runoff from earlier rainfall. Low-water crossings are inundated with water and may not be passable. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS... - At 1237 PM CDT, local law enforcement reported flooding in the warned area. Between 3 and 9 inches of rain have fallen. - Additional rainfall amounts up to 2 inches are possible in the warned area. - Some locations that will experience flooding include... Parsons, Chanute, Iola, Eureka, Neodesha, Fredonia, Humboldt, Yates Center, Erie, Madison, St. Paul, La Harpe, Gas, Moran, Thayer, Altoona, Longton, Toronto, Hamilton and Severy. Do not drive into flooded areas or go around barricades. Nearly two feet of water will carry most vehicles away. Turn around, don't drown.

Verdigris River at Independence affecting Wilson and Montgomery Counties. Verdigris River at Altoona affecting Wilson County. Verdigris River at Coffeyville affecting Montgomery County. * WHAT...Minor flooding is occurring and minor flooding is forecast. * WHERE...Verdigris River at Altoona. * WHEN...Until late Tuesday morning. * IMPACTS...At 21.0 feet, Flood waters begin to threaten outlining facilities of the city's water plant. Water Plant's clearwell may become flooded. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS... - At 7:45 PM CDT Sunday the stage was 20.2 feet. - Bankfull stage is 15.0 feet. - Forecast...The river is expected to remain nearly steady around 20 feet for most of the day Monday then will fall below flood stage late tomorrow evening and continue falling to 3.5 feet Friday evening. - Flood stage is 19.0 feet. Do not drive into flooded areas or go around barricades. Nearly two feet of water will carry most vehicles away. Turn around, don't drown. Caution is urged when walking near riverbanks.
