Special Weather Statement issued June 10 at 6:47AM EDT by NWS Indianapolis IN Early season heat is upon us, with forecasted high temperatures for today and Thursday near 90 degrees. Dew points into the 70s will bring heat indices to between 95 to 104 degree range during peak heating both days. Use the following safety tips for facing the heat safely: * Stay hydrated, avoiding alcohol and drinks with heavy caffeine or sugar. * Dress in loose fitting clothing, light in color. * Take advantage of shade and air conditioning when possible. * Take frequent breaks when working outdoors. * Beware that automobiles heat up very quickly, thus pets and children should not be left in parked vehicles for any length of time. * Vulnerable populations are particularly at risk: elderly, infants, and people with chronic medical conditions. Flood Warning issued June 10 at 1:21PM EDT until June 16 at 2:45PM EDT by NWS Indianapolis IN ...The Flood Warning is extended for the following rivers in Indiana... Wabash River at Montezuma. .Heavy rainfall of upwards of six inches since Saturday night in the Wabash basin is bringing minor flooding to portions of the Wabash River. Lowland minor flooding is expected from Montezuma through Riverton. The Wabash is expected to crest at Montezuma on Friday afternoon. Downstream at Riverton, minor flooding is expected to continue well into next week. * WHAT...Minor flooding is occurring and minor flooding is forecast. * WHERE...Wabash River at Montezuma. * WHEN...Until early Tuesday afternoon. * IMPACTS...At 18.0 feet, Montezuma agricultural levee is overtopped. Fourteen hundred acres of low bottomlands flood. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS... - At 12:45 PM EDT Wednesday the stage was 15.1 feet. - Recent Activity...The maximum river stage in the 24 hours ending at 12:45 PM EDT Wednesday was 15.1 feet. - Forecast...The river is expected to rise to a crest of 17.6 feet early Friday afternoon. It will then fall below flood stage early Tuesday morning. - Flood stage is 14.0 feet. - http://www.weather.gov/safety/flood Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads.
