Special Weather Statement issued July 3 at 8:14PM CDT by NWS Quad Cities IA IL At 814 PM CDT, Doppler radar was tracking slow-moving thunderstorms along a line extending from near Albany to near Rapids City to Coal Valley to near Hamlet. Movement was east at 20 mph. HAZARD...Wind gusts up to 50 mph and minor flooding. SOURCE...Radar indicated. IMPACT...Strong winds could break small tree limbs and blow around unsecured objects. Slowing or redirecting of traffic due to ponding or flowing water. Closure of waterfront access due to flooding. Locations impacted include... Moline, Rock Island, East Moline, Silvis, Geneseo, Colona, Milan, Le Claire, Coal Valley, Prophetstown, Hampton, Orion, Port Byron, Erie, Rapids City, Lyndon, Sherrard, Reynolds, Oak Grove, and Cleveland. This includes the following highways... Interstate 80 in Illinois between mile markers 1 and 20. Interstate 74 in Illinois between mile markers 3 and 22. Interstate 88 between mile markers 1 and 31. Interstate 280 between mile markers 16 and 18. If outdoors, consider seeking shelter inside a building. Torrential rainfall is occurring and may lead to localized flooding. Do not drive your vehicle through flooded roadways. Frequent cloud to ground lightning is occurring with these storms. Lightning can strike 10 miles away from a thunderstorm. Seek a safe shelter inside a building or vehicle. These storms may intensify, so be certain to monitor local radio stations and available television stations for additional information and possible warnings from the National Weather Service. A Severe Thunderstorm Watch remains in effect until 200 AM CDT for northwestern Illinois...and east central Iowa.
