This means that heavy rain has fallen or is expected to fall generally over Hong Kong, exceeding 30 millimetres in an hour, and is likely to continue. There will be flooding in some low-lying and poorly drained areas. People who are likely to be affected should take necessary precautions to reduce their exposure to risk posed by the heavy rain and flooding. Heavy rain may bring about flash floods. People should stay away from watercourses. People who are likely to be affected by flooding should take necessary precautions to avoid losses. Standby Signal, No.1 was updated at 3:45 p.m. on 3 July Here is the latest Tropical Cyclone Warning Bulletin issued by the Hong Kong Observatory. The Standby Signal, No. 1 is in force. This means that a tropical cyclone now centred within about 800 kilometres of Hong Kong may affect us. At 4 p.m., Tropical Storm Maysak was estimated to be about 660 kilometres southwest of Hong Kong (near 17.8 degrees north 110.0 degrees east) and is forecast to move northwest or north-northwest at about 15 kilometres per hour in the general direction of Hainan Island. Maysak continues to edge closer to Hainan Island. It is expected to make landfall over Hainan Island later today. It will then skirt at over 500 kilometres to the southwest of Hong Kong. The Standby Signal, No. 1 will remain in force tonight and at first tomorrow. Unless Maysak intensifies significantly and adopts a track closer to the coast of Guangdong, the chance of issuing the Strong Wind Signal, No. 3 is relatively low. The outer rainbands associated with Maysak are affecting the vicinity of the Pearl River Estuary, bringing short periods of squalls and violent gusts to Hong Kong. Under the combined effect of Maysak and the ridge of high pressure over southeastern China, local winds were occasionally strong offshore, up to gale force over parts of high ground. As Maysak departs gradually, local weather tomorrow is expected to gradually become dominated by the southeast monsoon associated with the ridge of high pressure. Depending on the local wind conditions, the Observatory will then issue the Strong Monsoon Signal, or cancel all tropical cyclone warning signals. Under the influence of the southeast monsoon, it will still be windy tomorrow and showers will be heavy at times, with thunderstorms, squalls and violent gusts. Members of the public should stay on the alert. There will be swells. Members of the public are advised to stay away from the shoreline, not to engage in water sports, and take note of the latest weather information. 1. Precautions should be taken. Drains should be cleared of obstructions, and windows and doors should be checked. 2.
