Increasing Gale or Storm Signal, No. 9 was updated at 4 a.m. on 26 July Here is the latest Tropical Cyclone Warning Bulletin issued by the Hong Kong Observatory. The Increasing Gale or Storm Signal, No. 9, is in force. This means that winds are expected to increase significantly as Noul moves closer to Hong Kong. At 4 a.m., Severe Typhoon Noul was centred about 80 kilometres east-northeast of Hong Kong Observatory (near 22.6 degrees north 114.9 degrees east) and is forecast to move northwest at about 18 kilometres per hour across the coast of eastern Guangdong. Locally, gales are affecting many places with occasional storm force winds offshore and over high ground. Heavy squally showers associated with Noul are affecting Hong Kong. Noul has made landfall over Huidong, Huizhou City, and is skirting within 100 kilometres northeast of Hong Kong. Depending on the change in local wind conditions, the Observatory will assess the need of issuing the Hurricane Signal, No. 10. Tropical Cyclone Warning Signal, No. 9 or above is expected to remain in force at least until 7 a.m. today. Members of the public please pay attention to the latest weather information issued by the Observatory. In the past hour, the maximum sustained winds recorded at Tate's Cairn, Cheung Chau and Waglan Island were 97, 93 and 86 kilometres per hour with maximum gusts exceeding 130, 131 and 106 kilometres per hour respectively. 1. Do not go outside. If you are reasonably protected, stay where you are. Do not touch electric cables that have been blown loose. 2. Stay away from exposed windows and doors because glass, already under strain from wind pressure, will shatter easily if hit by a flying object. Make sure you have a safe place to shelter. You should only fix broken windows and doors when there is no danger in doing so. 3. Since seas are high, and there are swells. and the current is strong with changing direction. You are advised to stay away from the shoreline and low-lying areas, and not to engage in water sports. 4. People outdoors should find a safe place now and remain there until the danger is over. 5. Flights at Hong Kong International Airport may be affected by the weather. Please contact your airline for the latest flight information before departing for the airport.
