The Increasing Gale or Storm Signal, No. 9, is in force. This means that winds are expected to increase significantly as Noul moves closer to Hong Kong. At 5 a.m., Severe Typhoon Noul was centred about 80 kilometres northeast of Hong Kong Observatory (near 22.7 degrees north 114.8 degrees east) and is forecast to move northwest at about 18 kilometres per hour across the coast of eastern Guangdong. Locally, gales are affecting many places with occasional storm force winds offshore and over high ground. Heavy squally showers associated with Noul are affecting Hong Kong.
