The No. 8 Northwest Gale or Storm Signal is in force. This means that winds with mean speeds of 63 kilometres per hour or more are expected from the northwest quarter. At midnight, Typhoon Noul was centred about 140 kilometres east-southeast of Hong Kong (near 22.0 degrees north 115.5 degrees east) and is forecast to move northwest at about 18 kilometres per hour towards the coast of eastern Guangdong. According to the present forecast track, Noul will make landfall over the vicinity of Huizhou to Shanwei on Sunday (26 July) morning, skirting around 100 kilometres northeast of Hong Kong. Local winds will strengthen significantly in the next few hours. The Observatory will issue the Increasing Gale or Storm Signal, No. 9 at 1:10 a.m. Under the influence of the rainbands of Noul, there will be frequent heavy squally showers and thunderstorms on Sunday over the territory. In the past hour, the maximum sustained winds recorded at Tate's Cairn and Waglan Island were 67 and 62 kilometres per hour with maximum gusts exceeding 91 and 84 kilometres per hour respectively. 1.
