Standby Signal, No.1 was updated at 3:45 a.m. on 3 July Here is the latest Tropical Cyclone Warning Bulletin issued by the Hong Kong Observatory. The Standby Signal, No. 1 is in force. This means that a tropical cyclone now centred within about 800 kilometres of Hong Kong may affect us. The tropical storm over the central part of the South China Sea was named as Maysak. At 4 a.m., Maysak was estimated to be about 670 kilometres south-southwest of Hong Kong (near 17.2 degrees north 110.8 degrees east) and is forecast to be slow-moving at first, and move northwest later at about 10 kilometres per hour in the general direction of Hainan Island. Maysak has intensified overnight. Its movement speed is relatively slow. It is expected to adopt a northwesterly track and edge closer to Hainan Island afterwards, still maintaining quite some distance from Hong Kong. The Standby Signal, No. 1 will remain in force at least until noon on Friday (3 July). The Observatory will then assess the need for issuing the Strong Wind Signal, No. 3 depending on the changes in the intensity of Maysak, the distance of its strong winds from the Pearl River Estuary, and the local wind conditions. In the past few hours, local winds were occasionally strong offshore and on high ground. The outer rainbands associated with Maysak are affecting the coast of Guangdong. There will be squally showers and thunderstorms over the region. There will be swells. Members of the public are advised to stay away from the shoreline, not to engage in water sports, and take note of the latest weather information. 1. Precautions should be taken. Drains should be cleared of obstructions, and windows and doors should be checked. 2. People in areas of exposed to high winds or in low-lying areas should take precautions against strong winds and flooding. 3. Fishing vessels and low power vessels in open sea should seek shelter as soon as possible and be secured properly with moorings. 4. Listen to radio, watch TV or browse the Hong Kong Observatory's website and mobile app for the latest information on the tropical cyclone.
