Standby Signal, No.1 was updated at 8:45 p.m. on 2 July Here is the latest Tropical Cyclone Warning Bulletin issued by the Hong Kong Observatory. The Standby Signal, No. 1 is in force. This means that a tropical cyclone now centred within about 800 kilometres of Hong Kong may affect us. At 9 p.m., the tropical depression over the central part of the South China Sea was estimated to be about 660 kilometres south-southwest of Hong Kong (near 17.2 degrees north 111.0 degrees east) and is forecast to move west or west-northwest at about 10 kilometres per hour in the general direction of Hainan Island. The tropical depression still remained rather loosely organised and generally adopted a westerly track towards the seas south of Hainan Island, maintaining quite some distance from Hong Kong. The Standby Signal, No. 1 will remain in force at least until noon tomorrow. The Observatory will then assess the need for issuing the Strong Wind Signal, No. 3 depending on the changes in the intensity of the tropical cyclone, the distance of its strong winds from the Pearl River Estuary and the local wind conditions. In the past few hours, local winds were occasionally strong offshore and on high ground. The outer rainbands associated with the tropical depression are edging closer to the coast of Guangdong and the vicinity of the Pearl River Estuary gradually. There will be squally showers and thunderstorms over the region. There will be swells. Members of the public are advised to stay away from the shoreline, not to engage in water sports, and take note of the latest weather information. 1. Precautions should be taken. Drains should be cleared of obstructions, and windows and doors should be checked. 2. People in areas of exposed to high winds or in low-lying areas should take precautions against strong winds and flooding. 3. People planning to visit Guangdong, Macau, outlying islands or remote parts of Hong Kong should note that changes in weather may affect your trips. 4. There will be swells. You are advised to stay away from the shoreline and not to engage in water sports. 5. Listen to radio, watch TV or browse the Hong Kong Observatory's website and mobile app for the latest information on the tropical cyclone.
